(Ages 5-9) Each session allows children with special needs the opportunity to explore sensorimotor experiences, expand communication skills, and develop social skills in a fun, nurturing environment.  Activities designed by physical therapists, speech-language pathologists and special education teachers include theme days, field trips and guest visitors.  Before and after camp care is available from 8-9 a.m. and from 3-5 p.m. for an additional fee of $7 per hour and must be prearranged.  Camp cost is $300 per session.  Scholarships are available based on eligibility on a first come, first served basis.

July 14-17 (Ages 8-18)  Camp for children with Craniofacial Anomalies.  One of the only camps in the country designed for children that have been born with a cleft palate or lip as well as other more rare anomalies of the face and skull.  This camp is sponsored by the cranial facial clinic at Riley Hospital for Children. Emphasis is on building self-esteem and self-confidence.  Cost:  $375 per camper.  Camperships available.  ACA Accredited.

CAMP R.O.C.K.S!
Respecting Other’s Capabilities is the Key to Success

June 28-July 3 (Ages 10-17)  Monday-Thursday (Sunday registration), 8 a.m.-4 p.m.  This camp is for young people who are on the autism spectrum.  It is provided by the Autism Society of Indiana and Easter Seals Crossroads.  The camp is a 5-night, 6-day outdoor camp.  Age appropriate activities will allow campers the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor camping experience in a fun, nurturing environment.  Activities will include science exploration, swimming, nature hikes, arts and crafts, and music.  All activities will be led by a team of professionals trained to work with individuals on the autism spectrum.  Cost is $375 per child.

June 22-26 (Ages 6 and up) Camp for children and adolescents who have tracheostomies and those that require respiratory assistance, including the use of ventilators. Many campers also have unique physical challenges, including quadriplegia. The camp provides opportunities for recreation, socialization, education, and public awareness. Outdoor activities and enrichment experiences encourage challenge and success, and foster selfesteem and independence. Activities include fishing, pontoon boating, canoeing, creative arts, swimming, horseback riding, nature, stream study, etc.  Cost:   Each family is asked to contribute to the cost of the camp, but no one is turned away for inability to pay.  ACA Accredited.

CYO CAMP RANCHO FRAMASA

May 31-July 31 (Ages 7-18)  An inclusive, residential summer camp serving youth of all abilities in various 3-day and 6-day programs. Located on 300 acres in Brown County near Nashville, Indiana. Provides staff support and adaptations for campers with disabilities within all programs. Summer camp activities include horseback riding, caving, canoeing, archery, climbing tower, swimming, drama, sports, games, arts and crafts, campfires, cooking out, camping out, nature exploration and more. Program of the Catholic Youth Organization. Campers with the following diagnoses are commonly included at CYO Camp: Autism, ADD/AHDH, Asperger Syndrome, behavioral diagnoses, cerebral palsy, emotional/psychiatric diagnoses, Down Syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, diabetes, and others. EARLY CHILDHOOD ARTS CAMP

June 1-5 9 a.m.-noon (Ages 3-6) Parents will be asked to join the camp each day from 11:30 a.m. to noon for group activities with their children.  Join us for a week of fun and creativity based on the book Who Makes the Sun Rise by Lois Templeton.

The VSA Arts of Indiana (VSAI) program is designed to increase early learning skills in children with disabilities through interactive, process-oriented arts activities.  The camp is an opportunity for children to particpate in ceramics, painting/drawing, and movement activities; explore creativity; increase vocabulary; and develop motor skills and social skills.

Campers must be ambulatory and able to shower and toilet themselves with minimal supervision. If applicants need greater assistance, please contact the LDM office prior to submitting an application. Volunteers are paired one-on-one with each camper; however, they are not qualified to transfer campers. Cost: $475.

HAPPY HOLLOW ASTHMA CAMP

July 13-18 (Ages 7-17) Five day residential camp for children with asthma. The camp is staffed 24/7 with physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses and pharmacists who all have knowledge in asthma management. Children are educated on how to manage and treat asthma while participating in a supervised active camping experience. HOOSIER BURN CAMP

May 25-May 29 (Ages 8-18) Camp for young people who have experienced a burn injury or have been treated in the state of Indiana requiring hospitalization. Camp activities include canoeing, paddle boating, fishing, swimming, archery, crafts, hay rides, horseback riding, and a variety of activities not found at a typical camp. The special programs available at camp help children build self-esteem and realize their highest potential while learning to deal with the obvious burn scars and the deep psychological trauma they often suffer. Camp staff includes medical personnel, social workers, therapists, fire service personnel, and adult burn survivors who generously volunteer their time. There is a ratio of one counselor for every two children. There is no cost to the family. Other programs are available throughout the year. Call for additional information.

June - August 2009 (Ages 9-16: Separated into age groups by sessions)  Traditional Camp - Jameson will serve any child who might benefit from a camping program which values diversity by creating a rich environment of endless opportunities for growth and personal development.  We are especially equipped to serve children with minor social and/or emotional challenges and children with limited financial resources.

July 27-31:  JC Juniors (for children ages 7 to 8) is a five day/four night program that provides a great way for our first-time campers to have a taste of the camping experience.

July 19-24:  Wellness Camp (for children ages 8 to 12) is a six day/five night camping program that focuses on all-around wellness, including healthy eating, exercise, and positive choices.  Follow-up sessions throughout the year will be included in this program.

June 21-28:  Tataya Mato (for children ages 7-17 impacted by HIV/AIDS) is eight day/seven night camping program FREE OF CHARGE.  This program not only offers the traditional camping experience but also provides a safe environment for children to explore the challenges they face each day with HIV/AIDS in their lives.

August 3-9:  AVID Youth Leadership Camp (for youth ages 13-14) offers adventurous leadership and team-building activities to go along with their school's AVID experience.  The child MUST BE ENROLLED IN AVID TO ATTEND.

In order to best serve our families, program fees are based on the family's income.    We work to make it possible for any child to be able to attend camp.  Call for additional information or visit our website.

June 15-19 (Ages 6-13) Day Camp. 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Day campers take part in arts, crafts and sports, as well as educational programming that covers medication, diet and exercise appropriate for a child with diabetes. Offers tips on coping emotionally with a chronic condition. Area physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and pharmacists provide medical supervision. Cost:   Parents are asked to pay $20. Tuesdays, June 16-21, Introductory Level.  (Day Camp 9:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m. (Ages 13-17) (6 weeks)  Camp for children with ASD or developmental delays (moderate functioning or above).  Designed to help adolescents who have little or no experience with skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, money handling and shopping.  Social and leisure skills will be part of the curriculum.  Enrollment limited to 6 students.  Cost:  $300.

M-F July 27-31 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Intermediate Level.  Day Camp (Ages 13-17)  Camp designed for the adolescent who requires minimal to moderate supervision with the skills listed above and also seeks to broaden skills in use of community resources, tools for hobby and home use, problem solving and social skills.  One session will address pre-driving skills.  Enrollment is limited to 6 students.  Cost:  $300.

June-August 2009 (Separated into age groups by sessions.) Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Your child will have fun, make friends, and enjoy new opportunities in an inclusive summer day camp environment. Experiences are designed and staffed by child development specialists. Children with disabilities will interact with typical peers through a variety of fun yet educational experiences. Activities will incorporate sensorimotor, musical, and socialization experiences for children ages 6-12. Teens will experience peer mentoring, community service projects, socialization skills, and community awareness. Locations in Marion and Hamilton counties will be offered. Not all locations will offer camps for all ages. Handwriting Camp (Ages K-2nd Grade) Based on the Handwriting Without Tears model.  June 2009 (ages 15-21) Career Exploration Camp.  2-week session.

Designed to teach children new and previously learned social strategies, P.A.L.S.S. (Practice and Learn Social Skills) will cover personal space, body language, talking to peers, team work, thinking of others and good sportsmanship.  Criteria for participation include desire and/or motivation to make friends, ability to follow 2-3 step directions, ability to communicate wants and needs, articulation intelligible enough for others to understand most of the time, spontaneous language with minimal echolalia, and other criteria.  Cost is $360 per child.
