Camp activities include canoeing, paddle boating, fishing, swimming, archery, crafts, hay rides, horseback riding, and a variety of activities not found at a typical camp. The special programs available at camp help children build self-esteem and realize their highest potential while learning to deal with the obvious burn scars and the deep psychological trauma they often suffer. June 20-27: Tataya Mato, for children ages 7-17 impacted by HIV/AIDS, is an eight day / seven night camping program. This program not only offers the traditional camping experience but also provides a safe environment for children to explore the challenges they face each day with HIV/AIDS in their lives.

June 14-18 (Ages 6-13) Day Camp. 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Day campers take part in arts, crafts and sports, as well as educational programming that covers medication, diet and exercise appropriate for a child with diabetes. Offers tips on coping emotionally with a chronic condition. Area physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and pharmacists provide medical supervision. Cost: Parents are asked to pay $20. Financial assistance is available. Day camp location: Jackson Morrow Park in Kokomo, Indiana.

LIFE SKILLS CAMPS

Wednesdays - June 23-July 28, Introductory Level. Day Camp 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (Ages 13-18) (6 weeks) Camp for children with ASD or developmental delays (moderate functioning or above). Designed to help adolescents who have little or no experience with skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, money handling and shopping. Social and leisure skills will be part of the curriculum. Cost: $295 until May 14; after May 14 the cost is $325.
M-F July 26-30 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Intermediate Level. Day Camp (Ages 13—18) Camp designed for the adolescent who requires minimal to moderate supervision with the skills listed above and also seeks to broaden skills in use of community resources, tools for hobby and home use, problem solving and social skills. One session will address pre-driving skills. Cost: $295 until May 14; after May 14 the cost is $325.

June 7-11 at Perry Park Ice Skating Rink (Ages 8-18) with disabilities such as autism, developmental delays, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy are taught how to ride and transition to a conventional bike within a 5-day period. Cost $125 per child. Each child is enrolled in the same 75 minute session per day for 5 consecutive days.

June-August 2010 (Separated into age groups by sessions.) Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Your child will have fun, make friends, and enjoy new opportunities in an inclusive summer day camp environment. Experiences are designed and staffed by child development specialist. Children with disabilities will interact with typical peers through a variety of fun yet educational experiences. Activities will incorporate sensorimotor, musical, and socialization experiences for children ages 6-12. Teens will experience peer mentoring, community service projects, socialization skills, and community awareness. Locations in Marion and Hamilton counties will be offered. Not all locations will offer camps for all ages.
Handwriting Camp (Ages K-2nd Grade) Based on the Handwriting Without Tears model.
Career Exploration Camp. 2-week session running June 21 – July 2nd. (Ages 15 – 22)
Art Camp will run July 26 – 30th (all ages)
Young Athletes Sports Camp will run morning and afternoon session the week of June 7 – 11th (ages 4-7)
Life Skills Autism Camp will run August 2 – 6th (ages 6 – 12)

Designed to teach children new and previously learned social strategies, P.A.L.S.S. Club (Practice and Learn Social Skills) will cover personal space, body language, talking to peers, team work, thinking of others and good sportsmanship. Criteria for participation include desire and/or motivation to make friends, ability to follow 2-3 step directions, ability to communicate wants and needs, articulation intelligible enough for others to understand most of the time, spontaneous language with minimal echolalia, and other criteria. Cost is $350 per child.
