INSOURCE Annual Conference Logo - Conference for parents and professionals dealing with special education children or students in Muncie, Indiana, on November 9th and November 10th, 2007

November 9-10, 2007
Muncie, Indiana
Horizon Convention Center

Please plan to join us at the Horizon Convention Center in Muncie as, together, we take the next steps and build for the future.

Opening this year's conference will be Dr. Al Condeluci, CEO of UCP/CLASS of Pittsburgh, whose mission is "working towards a community where each belongs."  In his keynote address, "Cultural Shifting:  Building Social Capital," he will focus on full community participation and will discuss connectedness among and between people.

The closing keynote on Saturday will feature Karen Gaffney, from Portland, Oregon, whose presentation, "Opening the Doors of Tomorrow, Today," will focus on the keys to successful inclusion for students like her who may have developmental disabilities but who also possess tremendous strengths.

"...social isolation (the opposite of social capital) is the greatest challenge that people with disabilities have and that families fear."

Conference participants will have the opportunity to view Karen's video containing timely messages for educators, paraprofessionals and families of students with developmental disabilities.

"Karen tackles any challenge she faces with determination and commitment, knowing she has limits, but not allowing them to limit her drive to succeed."

Dr. Robert Marra, Associate Superintendent, Indiana Department of Education, will be the luncheon speaker on Friday and will provide current information on the revision of Indiana’s Article 7. On Saturday morning, Kevin McDowell, General Counsel, Indiana Department of Education, will present a legal update, discussing recent court cases that have an impact on special education.

There will be many opportunities to explore ways to take the next steps to build for the future by attending some of the concurrent sessions which will be offered on topics including transition, technology, RtI, behavior management, discipline and a session especially for dads. Those attending are invited to join us for our annual awards ceremony which will take place during the Friday evening reception when special recognition will be given to those who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to students with special needs and their families. Participants are also invited to participate in our silent/live auction during the reception.Border decoration
