Title/Description: "Adapting the iPad for Accessibility" - joint collaboration between PATINS and IN*SOURCE. While the iPad is often promoted as a universally designed tool, adaptations are often still needed to support individuals who experience  various disabilities. This workshop, which is primarily intended for parents and families, will offer several ways to improve the accessibility of the iPad for children experiencing vision, hearing, physical, cognitive or communication challenges. Title/Description: "Kids From the Inside Out: Trauma and Fetal Alcohol and Drug Exposure Effects on Child Development" - RAPT 2013 Conference "Addressing Secondary Trauma & Self Care." This training is only for special needs adoptive/foster parents, caseworkers, and foster care service providers.  Parenting has been called the toughest but most fulfilling job in the world. Parenting children with special needs, including trauma complicated by fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and drug exposure, brings its own set of challenges. The first part of this two-part lecture and discussion will include Diane Burks, a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with foster and adoptive families for years, with information on how a child's development can be affected by trauma and drug/alcohol use.  The second part of this two part session includes a discussion with Diane and two mothers who are raising children from traumatic backgrounds with drug and alcohol exposure in utero.  This discussion will help parents understand how their children are affected, which parenting strategies work best, and how to get services and support.  Registration is required; please register online (see below).
